▶ Job Overview:

The Business Development Manager (BDM) will be responsible for driving growth through customer acquisition, OEM relationship management, product positioning, and supporting the company’s manufacturing and distribution initiatives within the aerospace and defense sectors. This includes identifying business opportunities, leading commercial negotiations, and working cross-functionally to deliver value-added solutions.

▶ Key Roles and Responsibilities:

A. Strategic Business Growth

  • • Identify new customers and sectors within aerospace, defense, and space domains.
  • • Drive top-line revenue growth through new client acquisition and expansion in key accounts.
  • • Monitor industry trends, defense procurement plans, and private sector growth areas.

B. OEM and Supplier Management

  • • Develop and manage relationships with global OEMs for product distribution.
  • • Negotiate distributor agreements, commercial terms, and support arrangements.
  • • Maintain a robust pipeline of OEMs to complement company capabilities and address market gaps.

C. Customer Engagement and Account Management

  • • Conduct meetings with program managers, procurement officials, and R&D heads.
  • • Respond to customer RFQs/RFPs with tailored technical and commercial proposals.
  • • Ensure customer satisfaction through timely support and relationship nurturing.

D. Marketing and Industry Visibility

  • • Represent the company at trade shows, defense expos, and technical events.
  • • Work with the marketing team to create product literature, case studies, and presentations.
  • • Promote the brand through online and offline channels targeting relevant sectors.

E. Tender and Project Management

  • • Track and respond to government and defense procurement tenders (GeM, DRDO, ISRO, etc.).
  • • Coordinate bid preparation with engineering, SCM, and finance teams.
  • • Drive compliance with bid requirements, commercial terms, and documentation standards.

F. Support to Manufacturing & Indigenisation

  • • Identify and pursue indigenisation opportunities with customers.
  • • Liaise with engineering for reverse engineering and new product development initiatives.
  • • Collaborate with QA and manufacturing for successful product validation and delivery.

▶ Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • • Engineering – for technical queries, design discussions, and feasibility studies.
  • • Supply Chain – for pricing, availability, and lead time inputs.
  • • Finance – for cost modeling, pricing strategies, and payment terms.
  • • Quality & Certification – to ensure regulatory and aerospace standards compliance.

▶ KPIs / Performance Metrics:

  • • No. of new OEM partnerships signed
  • • Order bookings – monthly/quarterly
  • • Tender participation and win ratio
  • • No. of customer accounts acquired or expanded
  • • No. of products developed/indigenized successfully
  • • Customer retention and satisfaction rate

▶ Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Business (Aerospace/Electronics/Mechanical preferred)
  • • 5–10 years of experience in defense/aerospace business development
  • • Familiarity with Indian government procurement procedures (e.g., GeM, eProc)
  • • Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • • Knowledge of aerospace standards (AS9100, MIL-STD, etc.) is an advantage

▶ Travel Requirements: 20–40% travel, both domestic and international

▶ Review and Revision: This SOP will be reviewed annually or as required to reflect organizational or market changes.
